Job Description

The successful candidate’s primary focus will be to bring in new commercial asphalt and concrete business to the company. The ideal candidate will have a background in both estimating and commercial sales. The candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely bid estimates for the paving and concrete division; estimates will include commercial asphalt projects including parking lots, municipal roadways, HOAs and residential work. This role is a direct report to the Sales Manager and will also support other department personnel as required in areas of Accounting and Operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional, dependable, and responsible individual.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all aspects of bidding process, including: reviewing invitations to bid, pre-site inspections, performing measurements for field estimates, preparing estimates, CRM data entry.
  • Prepares bids in a timely and effective manner; meets or exceeds established sales goals.
  • Accurately records and meets the budgeted estimating man-hours required to generate an estimate on all assigned jobs. 
  • Works with vendors, suppliers, purchasing and production staff to maintain understanding of material availability.
  • Frequent customer contact to discuss project and make changes/corrections as needed.
  • Pre-construction services: review contracts, prepare new job information, coordinate utility location, assess and confirm the placement of materials per job site, prepare  subcontracts, work orders and change orders, secure performance and payment bonds as needed. 
  • Construction services: attend on-site job meetings, monitor quality of plant-supplied material, document activities to achieve installation in a satisfactory manner.
  • Confirms new products and vendors are qualified, tested and/or approved to successfully complete work. 
  • Maintains strong customer relationship to maximize customer retention.
  • Communicate to appropriate parties any potential issues with a project and works to find immediate resolution.
  • Post-construction services: arrange inspections, submit warranty reports, monitor payment and/or collection needs, and perform walk-throughs.
  • Participates in industry associations to increase knowledge of marketplace, sales opportunities, competitors, sales techniques and best practices.
  • Maintains database to include current contact information, pricing and product information.
  • Must have the ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Representative for trade shows and conventions when required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years’ experience commercial sales & estimating.  Proven sales record in the construction and paving industry.  
  • Strong math skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Knowledge and proficiency in CRM software.
  • Valid driver’s license; clean driving history.
  • Must have verifiable references and pass a drug test.

PROJECT ENGINEER

Job Description

We are currently seeking an entry level project engineer (0 to 2 years) to join our growing team. In this position, you will be responsible for monitoring on-going construction and paving projects, surveying projects, estimating labor and materials costs, and communicating financial cost and project timelines to management. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail and skills at maintaining project-related documentation, field measurements, and basic estimating skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a young professional eager to learn about the construction industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read basic project plans and analyze other applicable documents to accurately determine project requirements and estimate and measure material quantities.
  • Liaison between field execution teams and main office to assure accurate reporting of daily activities.
  • Collaborate with contractors and  engineers during estimate creation to ensure overall accuracy.
  • Assist with the calculation, analysis, and adjustment of estimates; assist with the preparation of change orders.
  • Maintain records of project documentation including estimates, sales receipts, and project completion documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have completed two years or more of studies toward a bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering or the equivalent preferred; background in mathematics highly desired.
  • Computer skills; proficient at Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel); exposure to blueprint takeoff software (such as Bluebeam and AutoCAD) will be a plus.
  • Interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills; time management skills.
  • Ability to travel as required.
